It's really quick and easy to switch your current account to smilemore.

We have a dedicated team who personally take care of everything. They'll switch all your direct debits and standing orders for you.

It takes around 3 to 4 weeks, once we get your transfer letter and information from your old bank. So there's no reason not to switch your account. It's quick, hassle-free and there's someone to help you every step of the way.

Here's what'll happen:

step 1 - open your account

You'll need to get a smilemore account before switching. You can apply for any smile account at the click of a mouse. So if you haven't done so already apply now.

If the account you want to switch from is anything other than a current account, you'll need to speak to your old bank to request it be transferred.

If you've already got an account go to step 2.

step 2 - tell us what needs switching

You'll need to give us the details of your previous bank. If the account you want to switch to smile is with another bank, please complete this form and post back to smile. If the account you want to switch to smile is with The Co-operative Bank you just need to send us a secure message with your account details.

Download our switching form (PDF - 0.1Mb)

Once we've got your information we'll contact your previous bank to get a list of all Direct Debits and standing orders. These will then be set up on your new account. If you have asked for your former Bank account to be closed, funds will be transferred by your former Bank at the end of the transfer. You will be required to contact your former Bank to check whether they require the return of your cheque book and cards before closing your account. If you are keeping the account open, please ensure that you have sufficient funds available to cover payments due after the transfer date we provide you with. We'll let you know the date when all your regular payments will stop going out of your previous account and start going out of your smile account.
All you've got to do is continue using your old account while we do the work.

step 3 - we switch it

We electronically contact the companies you've got direct debits with and give them your new account details. We also write to your old bank and ask them to cancel your standing orders and direct debits. If you've asked us to close your old account, we'll also ask them to do this for you and transfer any credit balance.

At any stage, you can contact your employer and anyone else who pays money into your account, to give them your new details. However make sure you keep enough money in your old bank account until your account transfer has been completed and your payments have started being paid from smile.
