We are a bank called smile.
We were the first bank of the internet generation and we believe in The Co-operative Movement’s principles of a fair
deal for everyone from customers to suppliers and the planet itself.
We know our customers are busy so we keep our messages friendly but to the point. We don’t do the ‘big bank’
corporate thing. In fact, you could call us the bank that doesn’t wear a suit. With us, you’ll always know where you
stand, and you can trust us to always be straight with you.
We simply offer our customers award-winning service and great products by utilising modern technology. That’s why we
are called ‘smile’ – we’re nice and you get a good deal.
smile is part of The Co-operative Bank, which along with The Co-operative Insurance, The Co-operative Investments
and Britannia we make up The Co-operative Banking Group family.
where we come from
smile is a part of The Co-operative Bank, founded in 1872 as part of The Co-operative Movement. The Movement grew
out of the industrial revolution to create a fairer means of distributing profits - the idea of people working together to get
a fairer deal, for themselves and for everyone else.
We still believe in this idea. We're not driven by shareholder greed for excess profit. Unlike some other banks, we're not
out to make a quick buck through a stock exchange listing.
