When will I be able to deposit cheques digitally with smile?
From September 2018, we will start to roll out the second phase of cheque imaging, meaning any cheques you deposit with us will be processed using this updated method.
If you are depositing a cheque at a Co-operative Bank branch:
Cheque imaging will be introduced across our branch network throughout September, October and November 2018.
When you deposit a cheque at a branch, the branch will tell you if your cheque is being processed via cheque imaging or by the current cheque clearing process. The branch will also confirm the processing timescales.
If you are depositing cheques via the Post Office:
From 5 November 2018, all cheques paid into the Post Office will be processed via cheque imaging. If you pay in a cheque at a Post Office it will normally take two Business Days for us to receive it.
When paying in at the Post Office, please ensure you enclose a paying in slip to avoid any unnecessary delays in processing your cheque(s).

From 22 October 2018, if you post your cheques directly to us, they will be processed via cheque imaging.
Also from 22 October 2018, there is a new address to post your cheques. The new postal address is:

PO Box 12672
Note: You can still use the old prepaid deposit envelopes as these will be re-directed to the new address. Please also ensure you enclose a paying in slip to avoid any unnecessary delays in processing your cheque(s).
