Advice from our technical team

Is it safe to use internet banking?

Yes, we have an extremely secure banking system and to protect all our customers we use a range of strict security measures including the latest encryption technology. We are so confident in our systems, we've got a no risk policy. We will take full responsibility and repay you any money that is taken from your account due to any error by our staff or our systems.

We also use Chip and PIN card readers to protect your account; the card reader will be required to set up payments to people you have not sent money to in the past. The card reader works in a similar way to Chip and PIN machines in shops and it is really easy to use. Chip and PIN is available from most UK banks and since 2006 it is the natural way to use credit or debit cards in retail shops and ATMs.

What can I do to protect my PC?

There are a number of things we recommend you do to keep your computer protected:

Install anti virus software

Most computers will come with anti virus software installed on them however if yours does not have any we would strongly recommend that you install some, this will help protect you from the multitudes of virus that are on the internet.

It's also important to run/set up a regular scan with your anti virus software, if you don't run regular scans then viruses may go undetected on your machine.

Install/turn on your computers firewall

A firewall will prevent malicious software from getting information out from your machine to the internet and can also help protect you from intruders getting in. You can get a number of different firewalls, some come with you anti virus software, some are built into your modem/router and most Microsoft Windows computers will have a firewall as standard.

Install Trusteer Rapport Security Software

Whilst anti virus software and firewalls provide valuable protection against fraud, the threat of online attacks continue to become increasingly sophisticated.

We’ve teamed up with Trusteer to bring you Rapport security software, a free and easy to download tool designed to make your online banking even more secure by blocking behaviour that indicates banking malware is active on your PC.

Install Windows/Apple updates

Microsoft and Apple are constantly updating their operating systems to patch against any bugs or vulnerabilities that are discovered, these are very important and we would recommend installing these when your machine prompts you to.
