The Co-operative Bank

The Co-operative Bank provides high street and internet banking, current accounts, mortgages, savings accounts, credit cards and loans.  We trace our roots back to our founding as the Loans and Deposit department of CWS in 1872 and we've worked hard ever since to provide our customers with a viable alternative to our larger competitors.

We pride ourselves on our customer service and customer satisfaction levels, and we're always looking to put our customers at the heart of what we do.

We are also committed to leading the way on ethical, environmental and community matters.  The Co-operative Bank has a unique ethical policy setting out the way we do business which we've developed in full consultation with our customers.

ethical policy

As part of The Co-operative Bank, our customers have had a say in what we do with their money since the launch of The Co-operative Bank's first Ethical Policy in 1992. We are still unique in being the only UK high-street bank to have a customer-led Ethical Policy and we will always be prepared to stand up and address the issues our customers feel most passionately about. From human rights to animal welfare and the environment, our Ethical Policy gives our customers a say on the issues that matter to them. It covers all non-personal banking - i.e. all business loans, deposits and treasury dealings.

Our unique Ethical Policy covers five key areas: Human Rights; International Development; Ecological Impact; Animal Welfare; and Social Enterprise. In line with our customers' ethical concerns, we restrict finance to certain business sectors or activities, while at the same time committing to provide finance to those organisations making a positive community, social and environmental impact.
