Applying for a product

How do I apply for products online?

You can apply easily and quickly for current accounts, credit cards, loans, mortgages and savings products using our website. There are some Co-operative Bank products that you can’t apply for online. We’ll always make this clear in the product information.

What will I need to apply?

Applying online is easy. We typically just need to know your name, age, address, employment and income details. We recommend that you have a recent bank statement and - where applicable - a recent payslip to hand before starting an application.

Some products are only available to existing Co-operative Bank Current Account customers who've held their account for 1 month or more.

To complete most applications, you’ll need the following information:

  • Your current address and any previous addresses from the last 3 years.
  • Your income and employment details. You might find a lot of this information on your payslip.
  • Your monthly outgoings. This includes your contribution to rent/mortgage, council tax and household bills.
  • Your main bank account details. You’ll find this information on your bank statement or debit card.

Before you apply

Read the product information carefully. We provide clear and detailed information about all products, including features and benefits, eligibility criteria, rate information (where applicable), terms conditions, account charges and information about how we take care of your information.

Once you’ve read the relevant information, select ‘Apply now’ to begin your application.

Completing the application

The application is fairly straightforward. You can edit your details as you go and we’ll always give you an opportunity to check the information you’ve entered before asking you to submit your application.

As you complete your application, we’ll highlight the important information you need to know. Look out for Important Information boxes and downloadable documents.

We’ll prompt you where necessary to confirm that you’ve read the important information.

There’s no rush to complete your application, but for security reasons your session may automatically time out if it has been idle. We’ll warn you before this happens.

You can cancel your application at any time.

Protecting your money

Your eligible deposits with The Co-operative Bank are protected up to a total of £85,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the UK’s deposit guarantee scheme. This limit is applied to the total of any deposits you have with The Co-operative Bank and smile. Any total deposits you hold above the limit between these brands are unlikely to be covered.
